Let’s face it, we all lose hair everyday. The evidence is obvious by looking at your hairbrush, the floor of your bathroom and a ponytail holder that was just removed from your hair. For women, especially those with longer hairstyles, the female hair loss can be more noticeable because the strands are longer and more evident.
Normal hair loss is normal for women. But, what is normal? Most people lose around 50 to 100 strands of hair each day, according to the American Academy of Dermatology. If you wash your hair, you can increase your strand loss by almost 200. Again, this is normal and natural, and should not be a cause for alarm.
If you’re curious if your hair loss is more than normal, there are some warning signs you can look for. Examine your pillow in the morning when you wake up, if there are larger amounts of hair left on your pillow, it may be a sign. If you run your hand through your hair and more strands than normal are left between your fingers, this may be a sign. You can also look for more strands on your brush or sink drain.
