Eyes are one of the most expressive features on the face, showing joy, anger, excitement, and attraction. They also are delicately designed with thin skin and soft tissue that are affected by age, repetitive movement, and other factors. When skin or tissue sags above or below the eye, it can create a tired, sad, or older appearance. These are not the expressions that most people want to convey. Blepharoplasty, or eyelid lift surgery, can improve the appearance of the eyes for a more youthful, energetic look.

Marin County residents that want to improve the area around their eyes have an excellent source for blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, in Mill Valley. Our clinic director, Dr. Evan Ransom, is a double board-certified facial plastic surgeon with many years of experience performing eyelid surgeries. His expertise and extensive training in this field can help surgically improve the beauty of the eyes, reducing bags, dark circles, or hooded-eyelid issues.

Types of Blepharoplasty

Anyone who looks in the mirror and sees eyes that look hollow, tired, or sad on a daily basis may benefit from eyelid lift surgery. There are several different options and combinations of procedures to improve the appearance of the eyes. Some types of blepharoplasty include:

Upper eyelid lift.
When there is excess skin or tissue “hooding” the top eyelid, the eyes look tired and sad. Often simply removing a small amount of skin or fat in an upper eyelid lift can open the eyes for a more energetic appearance.
Lower eyelid lift.
The lower eyelid can droop and sag, creating dark circles, bags, and a hollow appearance to the eye. Lifting the lower eyelid skin and tissue can be done through several different techniques to improve the appearance of the eye.
Double eyelid surgery.
In genetic cases, sometimes both eyelids need adjustment to open the eyes. This is common in ethnic or Asian eyelid surgeries.
