Creating great patient experiences is our top priority at Ransom/MD. In a video interview, our wonderful patient care coordinator, Holly, gave us a breakdown of what patients can expect during their first consultation with Dr. Ransom.
There are many logistics for patients scheduling surgery, including work, children and home care, and preparation for recovery. The process is just as involved on the back end because we want to make the entire scheduling and treatment process as easy as possible. Once you have scheduled your surgery, our patient care coordinator, Holly, will go through your medical history so that lab testing can be scheduled as needed. Dr. Ransom, your anesthesiologist, and surgical list will go through your list of medications to make sure they are familiar with them so that there are no unexpected complications.
It’s important that patients have all the information they need before their surgery. All appointments are scheduled at the same time, including the pre-operative appointment, surgical date, and post-operative appointments for six months after surgery. Holly schedules pre-operative appointments six weeks before patients’ surgery date so that they have plenty of time to get their lab testing done and go through all of the paperwork, including information about the procedure(s) being received, consent forms, and post-operative care. You will have plenty of time to read through this information so that you can ask questions and feel confident about your treatment plan.
We believe that is helpful for patients to prepare for recovery as early as possible so that they can feel comfortable on their surgery day. After scheduling your surgery date, you will receive documentation detailing the medications you will be prescribed after surgery and which medications to avoid after surgery. Information about surgical supplies you should have at home (gauze, bandages, ice packs, etc.) and protocols to follow are also included in your information packet. All of this information is provided to set patients up for a successful surgery and smooth recovery.
