Protecting your scalp from the sun’s harmful rays should be a top priority as we enter the summer. Summer Solstice arrives on June 21 of this year. On this very day the sun is higher in the sky and it is the day when we enjoy the most hours of sunlight during the year. Enjoying long daylight days are just one of the things we all enjoy about the summer. However, it’s important to remember to protect your scalp from these days when it will be exposed to the sun a lot more.
If you have thinning or balding hair, you may find it challenging to protect your scalp from the sun. For individuals who have a full head of hair, sun protection is focused primarily on the part line and other exposed areas of the scalp, depending on the styling of their hair.

Protecting Your Scalp From The Sun
- Choose a hat or a scarf to cover your head and scalp. Choose a wide brim hat to get the additional protection for your neck and nose!
- Apply sunscreen to your head each day if you are not planning to wear protective clothing. Find one that is not greasy, and will not affect the hairstyle you wish to have.
- Find or create shade, and stick under it when possible.
